Alex lead a beautiful Shabbat service for family and friends. He fulfilled his obligations - recitiing his prayers, chanting from the Torah, not one, but two portions. It was a double Torah reading on this Shabbat. All family with their Aliyah stood proudly next to him as he chanted flawlessly. He gave a brilliant D'var Torah. Extra special was his one set of Grandparents was unable to make the trip and with technology they Skyped in, watched his entire Bar Mitzvah ceremony including seeing him walk with Torah. They were given the honor to still have their Aliyah and recited the Torah Blessings right next to Alex. G-d did not let us down, a sunny day and an uninterupted internet connection for Skype.
Pet Owners - Rabbi Andrea was highlighted in an article published, in print and online in The Jewish Daily Forward Newspaper, on a subject matter that concerns all pet owners. For we all think about it, struggle with it, and eventually deal with and experience it. I was pleased to be called upon and be interviewed by the writer for her article was published today, April 27, 2012. For those that are not Pet Owners will be touched by this article as well. That is how beautifully written it is. I connected with the writer and will be happy to share your feedback with her.

<b>about The Jewish Daily Forward Newspaper:</b>
The Forward is a legendary name in American journalism and a revered institution in American Jewish life. Launched as a Yiddish-language daily newspaper on April 22, 1897, the Forward entered the din of New York's immigrant press as a defender of trade unionism and moderate, democratic socialism.

The Jewish Calendar Continues

The Passover Holiday has ended. Back to eating bread and moving forward, but the Jewish calendar continues.

We look forward to Spring. Creation blooms right before our eyes.

Knowledge is golden, we look ahead, plan ahead, and why not include the Jewish calendar to see what is happening.

Shabbat is every week as you know. Remember, it is a day of rest. Enjoy the sunshine on those sunny days. Enjoy all that creation has provided us.

As always, I enjoy officiating your Jewish wedding ceremonies, when a Bride and Groom enters the Chuppah receiving blessings by G-d for your marriage. The customs and traditions under the wedding canopy is so joyous.

Bar Bat Mitzvah ceremony days and hearing our weekly Torah readings continue with our Youth. Adult Bar Bat Mitzvahs too and on the rise. I have many on the calendar and how wonderful to assist and fulfill for those who find this ceremony important at a certain time in their life.

Babies, babies and more babies receiving their extra special Hebrew names, their very first Jewish Life Cycle ceremony.

With life, there is death and we honor those beloveds in both. Honor their life in every way possible and remember they are always with you as Judaism teaches such.

Have a wonderful Spring and wonderful Summer looking ahead, but remembering to enjoy each day, each moment not allowing time to move too fast.

All my best,
Rabbi Andrea Frank

Did You Know?

Speaking of 83 years young - there is a Jewish tradition for when a person turns 83 years young, they can either become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. For some, it will either be their first or second one.

Why you ask....according to King David, when you live past the age of 70 , it's as life begins again. 70 + 13 = 83 years.

For all those you know planning to turn 83 years, start planning the Mitzvah Celebrations.

RABBI ANDREA'S - DID YOU KNOW?

A name defines a person's essence.

The Sages say when we name our new family addition, a baby, after a relative as per tradition - their Hebrew name keeps the memory alive forming a bond between the soul of the baby and the relative.

In years past, it was customary for the father to go to synagogue on the Shabbat soon after his daugther was born. A blessing was recited along with her Hebrew name. The synagogue community knew everyone and celebrated the father's joyous simcha with him. Today, observing such a tradition is not as common since a couple does not belong or has that nice connection with their congregational family.

Today, Naming ceremonies are taking place outside the synagogue walls, in our living rooms of our homes. They are our mini-sanctuaries. It is customary for daughters to be named no later than 3-months old.

This Rabbi blessed beautiful, adorable, daughters up to the age of 1 year including sons in many of living rooms, back yards in the warmer months, with the love of family and friends surrounding this wonderful Simcha! Parents are choosing a Naming Ceremony for their sons for personal reasons as well.

A warm and memorable moment for the entire family. Joyous!

I share with you what I wrote posted on his Blog.

Hello Preston,

As a Rabbi, Wedding Officiate, officiating Jewish Ceremonies, Civil Ceremonies for all couples all around the world and of course the Tri-State area since I too am based in New York rely on Wedding Planners as well. Especially when I need assistance at the ceremony site when the full vision is either not complete or needs a last minute change. As an Officiant, I too have a responsibility to my couples and to take care of them on their wedding day, including the planning stages leading up to their special day as well.

ABC, Association of Bridal Consultants, headquartered in Connecticut offers Members of Wedding Planners located all over the world. I am not a spokesperson for ABC, actually a Member myself under the category Officiant. I have been working with a Wedding Planner in my area and she invited me to ABC events. Knowing how much I rely on Wedding Planners when my couples hire one, and learning all of the valuable key learning topics, I joined. All of those that I have met in the Organization are passionate in what they do and eye for details, solving any problems that arise on the spot in a calm and most importantly professional way. I speak from experience having worked and socialized with. I was more than happy to be just as supportive.

You can easily do a search on their web site –http://www.bridalassn.com/LocateAWeddingPlanner.aspx. It will allow you to search for an ABC Member Wedding Planner in any location you are traveling, near or far.

All my best,
Rabbi Andrea Frank Th.M<br>

Perform Acts of Love and Kindness

<img src="http://www.jewish-wedding-rabbi.com/images/pilgrims-indians-thanksgiving.jpg" alt="giving, thanksgiving, pilgrims, indians, togetherness, food, turkey, new york, holiday"></img>

According to our history books, the Pilgrims and the Indians shared the feast table together. They were not related.

This thanksgiving holiday is bittersweet because I and my family will be celebrating with very special people whom extended their kindness. Heartfelt.

I am thankful for all my blessings as a Rabbi assisting many with their life cycle ceremonies; As a person, no big list, its quite simple, I appreciate life - sharing it with my family - it really is that simple.

Then there are those that this holiday will not be so cheery because they either said goodbye or on the verge of saying goodbye to a beloved. Including those that are sick with an illness under continuous medical care and may not have that opportunity to be present at the feast table. As a Rabbi, I am often contacted and hear about all of the above. Thus...the holidays are bittersweet.

Two important lines in the Jewish Obligation Prayer is to 'perform acts of loving kindness' and 'to welcome the stranger.' those who are Not of Jewish Hertiage can certainly relate to it as well.

For those cooking or attending, an abundance of food will be on the table. Can you welcome those to your table and touch another's heart with your kindness sharing the holiday together. Remember those around you that may be alone, may need a little cheer while they find ways to heal or deal.

Food feeds the soul, your kindness feeds the heart. ♥.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving with all your blessings and remember the lessons from our history. Its a Mitzvah (good deed)

On-Line Dating - What is Your Intent?

On-line dating web sites are the introductions, you do the rest.

You did not sign up to date, you signed up to meet someone for a relationship

You did not sign up to date for years, you signed up to meet the one

You did not sign up to pick, pick, and continue to be picky. You signed up to find your match.

You did not sign up to find you like the same music, the same food, you signed up to share life with someone and make life a joy and interesting. Life is wonderful shared by two.

You did not sign up to find someone to just hang out with, you signed up to share and be a partner.

If you need help, then seek help, that is what a Matchmaker does. If you can figure out why you have not found the one, then make the change and say this year is my year!

All the best in finding your bershert. Your soulmate.

How do I know...I officiated many couples who found their beshert on online-dating web sites.

Stop dreaming and make it happen for only you can make it so.

Sukkot - Fall Festival

Chag Sameach Sukkot

<img src="http://www.jewish-wedding-rabbi.com/images/sukkot.jpg" alt="Sukkot, Lulav, Etrog, Bimah, Succah, festival, kids"></img>

In this season of rejoicing (Zeman Simchatenu)Erev Sukkot begins this evening. We rejoice on this festival. It references back in history for the temporary dwellings (booth) when the Israelites traveled in the wilderness.
It lasts for 8 days and those who have an opportunity to go into a Succah, share a festive meal, snack, drink surrounded by the decorations of the fal...l colors of the harvest.

For those that do not, will decorate their table with fall colors, gourds, little itty bitty pumpkins, to teach and remind us in that time in history. Yes, pumpkins are not only for the last day in the month of October.

The other symbolisms are the Lulav and Etrog.<br>
Lulav...two willow branches and three myrtle branches are bound together. Etrog (citron), a sweet smelling citrus grown in Israel . Four species are shaken by a person using their entire body in six directions signifying that G-d is found everywhere in many directions.

On the 8th night, we light once again a Yahrzeit (Memorial Candle) for our beloved's. Once again, part of the 4 times a year we light a Yahrzeit including the Anniversary.

Mazel Tov! Rabbi Andrea's student, Ilyse became a Bat Mitzvah. She was taught and prepared for her coming of age Bat Mitzvah Shabbat Havdalah Ceremony. Her beautiful Bimah was created to resememble a temple sanctuary Bimah and Ark, all the elements needed. A Shabbat and Havdalah prayer service can take place anywhere as long as we meet the requirement of a Minyan (10 over the age of 13). Her family and friends indeed fulfilled. She led a beautiful prayer service and ended Shabbat with our symbolic Havdalah ceremony (candle, spices and wine).

Did You Know.... on Erev Yom Kippur, Kol Nidre

Erev Yom Kippur is approaching this Friday evening and of course, it is also Shabbat. Our custom on Erev Yom Kippur is to light a Yahrzeit (memorial candle) for our beloved's that have past on. No, your not confused, it just so happens memorial candles (yahrzeits) are lit 4 times a year plus the Anniversary, called Yahrzeit, when that beloved has past.

If you do not have yah...rzeit candles, you can usually see them for sale at your local supermarket now.

And.... if you do happen to light Shabbat candles, the Yahrzeit (memorial candle) is lit before you light your Shabbat candles.

Have an easy fast.

Traveling Torah

Her traveling Torah was ordered from Israel and it traveled from Israel to its home in New York. It travels locally in the tri-state area, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and now it embarked on adding miles to its travel log once again.

Recently, this traveling Torah made the trip overseas to Europe. It assisted Rabbi Andrea Frank's student to become a Bat Mitzvah of which she read her Torah portion for that Shabbat on her special day. She held it high with such pride and confidence for she knew she fulfilled her obligation.

This student's family did not have the resources in Europe for a Rabbi to teach, train, prepare and officiate for her special coming of age ceremony.

The Virtual Classroom has once again reached overseas and fulfilled a Mitzvah for her to become a Bat Mitzvah, the daughter of the commandment.

The Traveling Torah and Rabbi Andrea smiled knowing what the two was able to achieve. Working together to bring another student closer to their hertiage as she begins her next path of life being counted in the Jewish Community.

Remembering all she learned knowing G-d is with her, in all the directions that her path of life takes her.
