What made her ceremony more personalized is each of her family members came up and provided their own personal blessings. We laughed, we had tears of joy, but most importantly we celebrated this time honored tradition as she became a Bat Mitzvah.

Erev Shavuot tonight- Shavuot commemorates the anniversary of the day
God gave the Torah to the entire Israelite nation assembled at Mount
Sinai

I know, I know what your asking, " so what do I do with this
information and really, a Jewish holiday in the month of May?" (smiles)

It is customary to stay up the entire first night of Shavu'ot and study Torah, then pray as early as possible in the morning.

Not into that...Then, it is customary to eat a dairy meal at least once during Shavu'ot. Well that is simple to do. Put away those steaks for tonight.

Why eat dairy you ask? it is a reminder of the promise regarding the land of Israel, a land flowing with milk and honey.

Enjoy,

A Livingroom Jewish Wedding is Possible!

You can have a Livingroom wedding when you have a nice size space for either a home or a Condo.

Rabbi Andrea experienced just that on Central Park South in New York City.

The groom was escorted by his parents, the bride was escorted by a family friend (parents unable to travel). They both beamed as they stood next to each other to receive their marriage blessings.

The best man (groom's brother) held the rings and the Groom's father blessed his children on their wedding day by wrapping them in the traditional tallit.

They drank the wine, exchanged their Jewish wedding vows and spoke special words from heart to heart.

Since there was enough space for 70 guests, a travel catering company set up the catered reception as all other locations are deemed for such occasions. A five piece band set up in the corner providing the music for all to enjoy and celebrate with the bride and groom.

The Chuppah, the wedding canopy, symbolism for the couples first home. How fitting that their wedding ceremony took place in their first real home.

G-d was present in blessings and his light beamed through the windows upon the couple as they were joined in their martial union as one.

An honor to bless another couple in marriage in their home that welcomed all as Abraham.

Destination Wedding Marriage Laws

Planning a Destination Wedding can be dream like, magical and a wonderful way to have a wedding.

When planning a wedding, the most important detail of your marriage being deemed legal should not be put on the back burner while the pretty details of your day take the lead.

Separation of Church and State - this defines simply as your marriage by law needs to be legal and recorded. Religious ceremonies are not making your marriage legal, it is blessing your marriage by G-d. The legal part will always be the signing of your Marriage License by those that have the authority to sign.

Marriage Laws for each country can create a huge headache for a couple. When you are not a resident of that country, you need to research and learn how your marriage can become legal.

Mexico Marriage Laws - a huge headache. Sky rocket legal fees, blood tests, required days in the country and legal marriage by a Judge in Mexico.

Canada - Your wedding officiant needs to be sponsored by an Appointed Governing Official for a temporary license to legalize your marriage. Very difficult to obtain. Over $300.00 to apply for your unsigned Marriage License.

Caribbean Islands - each Island has different laws. Do your research.

France - very difficult, very time consuming. As one Groom put it, "I thought I was putting together my life history since birth"

Well, you get the picture. What is the solution for a destination wedding out of the United States.

It is simple, it is headache free, and the marriage license application fee is minimal.

Answer: You legalize your marriage in the United States at your local Marriage county office. Or with your wedding officiant if in the same city. The same wedding officiant you are planning to fly to your destination wedding location. If not in the same city, the local judge as part of the marriage county office.

Before you say how unromantic - a few couples expressed it was easy and did not feel truly married until they walked down the aisle and received their blessings for marriage under the Chuppah at their Jewish wedding ceremony.

Do your research, plan wisely and you can have a beautiful dreamy destination wedding under the Chuppah.

Rabbi Andrea's Seimi-Homemade Purim Hamanstaschen Recipe.

Oh No! Purim is this weekend. Every year you say you will make the Hamantaschen and every year you wind up not making them at all, but buying them in the store. What fun is that?
Purim is a holiday of fun, so have fun and an easy way with less time making the Hamantaschen and more fun enjoying them.

Rabbi Andrea's Seimi-Homemade Hamanstaschen Recipe.
I only borrowed the title from Sandra Lee on Food Network, not the recipe.

Products to Pick Up at the Supermarket:

Pillsbury readymade pie crusts

Jelly in a jar Blackberry, apricot (yum)

Walnuts

The Semi-Homemade Hamantaschen Easy Recipe for fun:

Pillsbury readymade pie crusts.

Take the dough out of the box place on wax paper or cutting board

Take a small juice glass, turn upside down onto dough, and use to cut out circles.

As many circles as you can make in the pie crusts. Use all the dough.

You may need 2 boxes of pie crusts or 3 boxes depending how many you are making for in your household

Dough Circles this is where the laughter begins around the table

A teaspoon of jelly

A few pieces of walnuts

All in the middle of the circle

Pinch 3-corners of the circle to create a triangle cookie in the shape of Hamans hat.

Crack an egg; mix with a fork, brush a little on the cookie part

Bake for 10 minutes on 350 or until the cookie (aka pie crust) is golden brown

Not quite a cookie, not quite a pie - but it is still a Hamantaschen for Purim this weekend.

It is still the shape of the Haman's Hat. Make some noise with your Purim Gragger!

Don't knock Semi-Homemade - Look how Sandra Lee made a name for herself on the Food Network!
