Sukkot - Fall Festival

Chag Sameach Sukkot

<img src="http://www.jewish-wedding-rabbi.com/images/sukkot.jpg" alt="Sukkot, Lulav, Etrog, Bimah, Succah, festival, kids"></img>

In this season of rejoicing (Zeman Simchatenu) - Erev Sukkot begins this evening. We rejoice on this festival. It references back in history for the temporary dwellings (booth) when the Israelites traveled in the wilderness.
It lasts for 8 days and those who have an opportunity to go into a Succah, share a festive meal, snack, drink surrounded by the decorations of the fal...l colors of the harvest.

For those that do not, will decorate their table with fall colors, gourds, little itty bitty pumpkins, to teach and remind us in that time in history. Yes, pumpkins are not only for the last day in the month of October.

The other symbolisms are the Lulav and Etrog.<br>
Lulav two willow branches and three myrtle branches are bound together. Etrog (citron), a sweet smelling citrus grown in Israel . Four species are shaken by a person using their entire body in six directions signifying that G-d is found everywhere in many directions.

On the 8th night, we light once again a Yahrzeit (Memorial Candle) for our beloveds. Once again, part of the 4 times a year we light a Yahrzeit including the Anniversary.

Mazel Tov! Rabbi Andrea's student, Ilyse became a Bat Mitzvah. She was taught and prepared for her coming of age Bat Mitzvah Shabbat Havdalah Ceremony. Her beautiful Bimah was created to resememble a temple sanctuary Bimah and Ark, all the elements needed. A Shabbat and Havdalah prayer service can take place anywhere as long as we meet the requirement of a Minyan (10 over the age of 13). Her family and friends indeed fulfilled. She led a beautiful prayer service and ended Shabbat with our symbolic Havdalah ceremony (candle, spices and wine).

Did You Know.... on Erev Yom Kippur, Kol Nidre

Erev Yom Kippur is approaching this Friday evening and of course, it is also Shabbat. Our custom on Erev Yom Kippur is to light a Yahrzeit (memorial candle) for our beloved's that have past on. No, your not confused, it just so happens memorial candles (yahrzeits) are lit 4 times a year plus the Anniversary, called Yahrzeit, when that beloved has past.

If you do not have yah...rzeit candles, you can usually see them for sale at your local supermarket now.

And.... if you do happen to light Shabbat candles, the Yahrzeit (memorial candle) is lit before you light your Shabbat candles.

Have an easy fast.

Traveling Torah

Her traveling Torah was ordered from Israel and it traveled from Israel to its home in New York. It travels locally in the tri-state area, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and now it embarked on adding miles to its travel log once again.

Recently, this traveling Torah made the trip overseas to Europe. It assisted Rabbi Andrea Frank's student to become a Bat Mitzvah of which she read her Torah portion for that Shabbat on her special day. She held it high with such pride and confidence for she knew she fulfilled her obligation.

This student's family did not have the resources in Europe for a Rabbi to teach, train, prepare and officiate for her special coming of age ceremony.

The Virtual Classroom has once again reached overseas and fulfilled a Mitzvah for her to become a Bat Mitzvah, the daughter of the commandment.

The Traveling Torah and Rabbi Andrea smiled knowing what the two was able to achieve. Working together to bring another student closer to their hertiage as she begins her next path of life being counted in the Jewish Community.

Remembering all she learned knowing G-d is with her, in all the directions that her path of life takes her.

It did not stop this couple and their wedding planner to make their Jewish Wedding take place before the storm. All was relocated, but it did not miss a beat.

Their Chuppah was a family heirloom over 100 years old and survived the holocaust. The couple's pooch was a groomsman and lied right down next to them as they stood under the Chuppah. It was truly a warm and welcoming celebration opposite to what was going on in the outside. All smiles.

No matter how difficult this is, it is the responsibility of the living to take care of the beloved family member who past because they no longer can do for themselves.

Often times, the loved one that is responsible to take care of such task finds it unbearable or has issues with it.

Remember, we mark their place that they too lived here on earth. G-d's creation.

They are Married!

Erica and Lee are Married, Mr. & Mrs. in a beautiful, small, intimate wedding with family surrounding them. No wedding is less important by those in attendance. Small or large, wedding ceremonies are special and the love encircled Erica and Lee on their wedding day under the Chuppah. Family stood by, partaked in holding the hand-held Chuppah while they were blessed in Marriage. The bride's brother played his guitar to provide a little music to add to their special day. All the parents blessed their children as per traditionis and was given the honor to escort them to the Chuppah. Again, the size of the ceremony does not matter, it the couple and family that makes the day special. Even the Grandparents took part, the Grandmothers signed the State Marriage License, now that is just priceless! Mazel Tov!

Naming Ceremonies

Today, couples may or may not connect to the traditional custom of having a Bris in their living room. We do not encourage you to not have one, as it is tradition, but you do not have to feel your baby boy can not have a Naming ceremony when you choose no Bris. Every Jewish born child should receive a Hebrew name, not only as per tradition, but to honor the memory of a beloved family member to keep them alive in our hearts and mind carried on by each new generation.

Authorized to Legally Marry All Couples

There is a misconception that Clergy only Officiate Religious Wedding Ceremonies of their faith.

Be well informed...
A Registered Clergy can legally marry all couples, including those requesting Civil Weddings as well. Jewish or not.

This Clergy has been Registered with NYC Clerk's Office. Rabbi Andrea is a Rabbi and in the eyes of State's City Clerks, an authorized Wedding Officiant; A Wedding Celebrant; A Marriage Celebrant - and can legally marry all couples after the 24 hour waiting period as per New York State Marriage Laws and New York City

This means I am Authorized to sign State's Marriage Licenses making all legal and binding.

She enjoys officiating all wedding ceremonies. Joyous to be part of this very special moment between two hearts becoming one.

Looking forward to hearing from all couples to officiate your wedding ceremony.
