Rabbi Andrea's Seimi-Homemade Purim Hamanstaschen Recipe.

Oh No! Purim is this weekend. Every year you say you will make the Hamantaschen and every year you wind up not making them at all, but buying them in the store. What fun is that?
Purim is a holiday of fun, so have fun and an easy way with less time making the Hamantaschen and more fun enjoying them.

Rabbi Andrea's Seimi-Homemade Hamanstaschen Recipe.
I only borrowed the title from Sandra Lee on Food Network, not the recipe.

Products to Pick Up at the Supermarket:

Pillsbury readymade pie crusts

Jelly in a jar Blackberry, apricot (yum)

Walnuts

The Semi-Homemade Hamantaschen Easy Recipe for fun:

Pillsbury readymade pie crusts.

Take the dough out of the box place on wax paper or cutting board

Take a small juice glass, turn upside down onto dough, and use to cut out circles.

As many circles as you can make in the pie crusts. Use all the dough.

You may need 2 boxes of pie crusts or 3 boxes depending how many you are making for in your household

Dough Circles this is where the laughter begins around the table

A teaspoon of jelly

A few pieces of walnuts

All in the middle of the circle

Pinch 3-corners of the circle to create a triangle cookie in the shape of Hamans hat.

Crack an egg; mix with a fork, brush a little on the cookie part

Bake for 10 minutes on 350 or until the cookie (aka pie crust) is golden brown

Not quite a cookie, not quite a pie - but it is still a Hamantaschen for Purim this weekend.

It is still the shape of the Haman's Hat. Make some noise with your Purim Gragger!

Don't knock Semi-Homemade - Look how Sandra Lee made a name for herself on the Food Network!

Chelsea Clinton is Engaged to marry a Jewish fella

Mazel Tov!

The news is out! Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of Former President Clinton and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is engaged to marry her boyfriend, Marc Mezvinsky of Jewish descent. Both families tied in the political arena, but most important, proud parents for their children will marry.

An interfaith couple where Chelsea Clinton is a Methodist. It does not say if Marc Mezvinsky is Reform or Conservative, but the couple was spotted when attending Yom Kippur services at the Jewish Theological Seminary. The seminary is part of the Conservative Movement branch of Judaism. Though, that does not answer the question. The news media did not offer additional information on his family Jewish background of a temple they belong to and attend.

Will Chelsea convert to Judaism as Ivanka Trump did? Since the media will be involved following every step they take, we will know soon enough.

A blessed life cycle ceremony for Chelsea and Marc. Taking the next step in their relationship, marriage.

There just may be a Jewish wedding ceremony under the Chuppah, the wedding canopy intertwining two family trees with the blessing over the wine in the kiddush cup. A Ketubah, the Jewish wedding contract with text stating their mutual agreement into the Covenant of Marriage. Temple or not, the Jewish wedding ceremony can take place anywhere as the wedding canopy, the Chuppah can be raised creating the sacred space for the couple to receive their blessings as they vow their love and commitment in marriage to one another.

No major decision like this is entered lightly and they will live their lives with each others religion or only one. The bottom line, it is up to the two of them.

Rabbi Andrea Frank wishes a hearty Mazel Tov to the happy couple and their families.

Oliver Becomes a Bar Mitzvah

When you know you want your child to become a Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah, but do not know what to do, then consult a Rabbi.

Oliver's parents did that after experiencing and attending Rachel's Bat Mitzvah in her back yard.

You see, you can have a Shabbat Bar or Bat Mitzvah anywhere, even outside the Temple walls as long as you have a Minyan of 10 or more over the age of 13. Most Bar and Bat Mitzvah ceremonies fulfill that requirement.

Then the student can lead their family and friends in prayer and publicly read from the Torah for the first time at the age of 13 or close to that age per Jewish tradition.

Oliver and Rabbi Andrea Frank studied together. In between Oliver made the commitment to study per the Rabbi's instructions. This past Saturday, Oliver become a Bar Mitzvah and lead all that attended in a beautiful Shabbat morning prayer service.

Oliver became quite comfortable with Rabbi Andrea and filled her in on all his sports interests and taught her a few things on sports as well. So, Rabbi Andrea presented Oliver with a book that fit him perfectly during her presentation. A well known book that enlightens students interested in sports about athletes that happen to be Jewish.

Thank you Oliver for the honor to prepare and teach you for your time honored life cycle ceremony in Judaism.

A Double Twin B'nai Mitzvah

Mazel Tov! Julia and Jesse, a brother and sister became a B'nai Mitzvah. Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah combined for a boy and girl is a B'nai Mitzvah.

Two of everything. Two Torahs, shared ceremony created a beautiful Havdalah B'nai Mitzvah.

Havdalah - a Jewish Shabbat ceremony that marks the symbolic end of Shabbat. Shabbat prayers are recited and the Havdalah ceremony concludes Shabbat with special prayers for the Havdalah candle, the spices and the wine.

You can have a Havdalah Bar Mitzvah, Havdalah Bat Mitzvah and Havdalah B'nai Mitzvah Saturday evenings before sundown. No longer Shabbat morning only Bar and Bat Mitzvah cermonies. Havdalah ceremonies have been offered for quite some time now. Rabbi Andrea Frank offers the option to all her student families.

We conclude our Havdalah ceremony and sing Shavua Tov as our final song.

Shavua Tov, May you have a good week.
May you find the happiness that you seek.

A down home Tennessee Jewish wedding ceremony at Bobbique in Patchogue, New York. The Chuppah was raised right on the dance floor.

Well, the reception menu and the location was Tennessee style, but the Jewish wedding ceremony stayed with tradition with an added twist. The bride and groom are huge Bruce Springsteen fans. Rabbi Andrea Frank intertwined the Boss's lyrics within the key elements in the ceremony order.

This is a perfect sample on how Rabbi Andrea Frank customizes her Jewish wedding ceremonies so that it is unique for each and every couple.

When you have a wedding budget you are following, Rabbi Andrea Frank understands, but don't expect for her to give you a cut and dry answer on her Honorarium (fee) in an email. Why? The ceremony is the most important moment of your lives, when two hearts become one by your union.

If you had nothing else, no material items (wedding flowers; wedding dress; wedding reception meal) to make your day beautiful, what is left?

Hopefully, your answer was...your marriage, your union.

A beautiful Jewish wedding ceremony for Melissa and Robert whom met at the New Orleans Jazz Fest and were wed by Rabbi Andrea Frank at the gardens of Wave Hill, Riverdale, New York. The weather was a bit chilly, so the location made provisions. All went smoothly and a good time was had by all.

Wipe the Slate Clean this Yom Kippur

The Jewish Day of Atonement at sundown Sunday, September 27 marks a day like no other.

That even those that do not observe entirely by fasting, or maybe not attending temple with a community, and, maybe for medical reasons one cannot and should not because health comes first. Or visa versa, you do all that is expected of us.

Guess what, we do still put our normal lives on hold for 24 hours.

Lets also look at it as having a day of forgiveness as an official holiday, It must be a big relief!

This year, Yom Kippur, is the holiest day of the Jewish calendar and was easily summed up by one of my Bar Mitzvah students.

Hurrah! A new start!..Quick, get rid of all last years stuff!" (non-material)

I added, to wipe the slate clean, to not repeat what you did last year and make changes this year."

Technology is a perfect example, look back and see how you have changed with it.

I do indeed see the change in society from it. I can easily pin point the positives and the negatives of it can you?

To wipe the slate clean for a Happy and healthy New Year.

One long day called Yom Kippur, a day of forgiveness and new beginnings with Gods blessings.

Have an easy fast and Good Yontif!

Rosh Hashanah Greetings, Greeting Cards - Hallmark did not create it!

The custom of sending a Jewish New Years message in a greeting card as we know it today, dates from five centuries ago.

In the 14th century, Rabbi Jacob Halevi ben Moshe Moellin recommended when sending a Jewish New Year greeting card, one should include the greeting L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu in all written correspondence.

This custom lived on for hundreds of years, up until the present day, but only in the 19th century did it become a custom to send New Years greeting postcards and today colorful and imprinted cards.

Now you know the answer to the question, "Why send Jewish New Year greeting cards?" It is not because Hallmark created it.

L'Shanah Tovah TikatevuMay you be inscribed for a good year along with wishes for peace, good luck, good health, and prosperity to all.
